PoE & Network Power Troubleshooting Guide
Having trouble powering cameras, access points, intercoms or other network devices through PoE? Use this guide to identify common PoE and network power problems, including faulty ports, damaged cables, insufficient power and unstable connections.
PoE & Network Power Troubleshooting FAQ
Why is my PoE device not powering on?
Check the Ethernet cable, verify the switch or NVR port supports PoE, confirm the device is PoE compatible and test another known-working PoE port.
Why does my PoE device keep restarting?
Check the available PoE power budget, inspect the cable and connectors, and verify the device is not drawing more power than the switch can provide.
How do I know if a PoE port is working?
Check the port status lights, test the device on another port and connect a known-working PoE device to the same port for comparison.
Can a bad network cable cause PoE problems?
Yes. Damaged conductors, poor terminations, excessive cable length or low-quality cable can cause unstable power and network connectivity.
What does PoE power budget mean?
The PoE power budget is the total amount of power a switch can supply to connected devices. If the total demand exceeds the available budget, some devices may not power on correctly.
Why does my camera work on one PoE port but not another?
The affected port may be disabled, faulty, out of available PoE power or configured incorrectly. Check the switch settings and test the port with another device.
